Frac Tank What You Should Know

2024-07-11 10:54:31

Frac tanks are large-capacity steel tanks used to store liquids or solids such as petroleum products, chemicals, manure, saline water, and proppants. They are employed in various applications and come in different variations.

These tanks range in size from 8,400 gallons to 21,000 gallons and can be easily transported when empty using a tractor or truck. They feature a 'V bottom' or 'round bottom' design, creating a central low point for easy emptying and cleaning.

Different projects require specific types of frac tanks. Here are six common types:

1. Mix Tanks: These tanks agitate and circulate stored liquids using four individual 10 HP motors. They come with safety features such as guardrails, non-slip materials, walking areas, and audible alarms.

2. Closed Top: Ideal for the fracking industry, these tanks provide safe and reliable on-site liquid storage. They range in size from 8,400 gallons to 21,000 gallons and offer various interior features such as a rounded bottom dual manifold, bare steel interior, heating coils, and epoxy-coated interiors.

3. Open Top: These tanks feature an open top for easy monitoring of liquid levels and cleaning. They are used to store liquids like run-off water and non-hazardous chemicals. Open top frac tanks range in size from 7,932 gallons to 21,000 gallons.

4. Double Wall: Designed for safe storage of non-flammable and non-combustible, hazardous and non-hazardous liquids, these tanks have a built-in secondary compartment. They provide additional safety in environmentally sensitive areas and feature spill guards to prevent leaks.

5. Open Top Weir: These tanks control the flow of liquids up to 100 gallons per minute (GPM). They use weirs or baffles inside the tank to segregate residual fluids, oils, and contaminants.

6. Gas Buster: These tanks stabilize the viscosity of liquids during drilling by allowing gases to escape and preventing blowouts. Liquids are extracted from an outlet at the bottom, while gases escape from the top vent.

Frac tanks offer several benefits, including:

· Large storage capacity for industrial liquids and proppants
· Easy coupling with other equipment on site
· Viscosity maintenance, liquid separation, and efficient filling/draining
· Variety of types to meet specific project needs
· High mobility for transportation
· Availability in various sizes to accommodate different storage requirements
Applications in various industries such as oil and gas, construction, environmental remediation, municipal, and agriculture.
